  • Aparna Mishra

    Navyug Kanya Mahavidyalaya
    Class of 2015
Aparna lives in Lucknow with her parents and brother. Her father is a mailman and has always encouraged her to also pursue a government job. However, like many Medha students, she wanted to explore other career options in the private sector.

After completing Medha's Career Advancement Bootcamp, she secured an internship at Jagran Prakashan, a multifaceted media company with radio, print, and digital properties. She learned the ins-and-outs of the media business, from advertising to journalism. Based on her strong performance, she was given a pre-placement offer in the marketing department and joined as Marketing Associate. Since then, she has been promoted to Executive and is now managing a small team of sales associates. She is truly building her career in the fast-changing media industry and has even managed to change her parents perceptions of the private sector!

I feel that I am learning new things everyday at my job and that is extremely satisfying. My superiors appreciate my work and I am enjoying what I am doing.

  • Chandra Mani

    Government Polytechnic
    Class of 2016
I’m the second-youngest of six brothers and most of them work in the public sector. My family always encouraged me to also work for the government, but I have never been drawn to that. Before joining Medha, I didn't know what other options were available.

I enrolled in Medha during the first year of my marketing and sales diploma at the Government Polytechnic in Barabanki. I was doing well in my classes but was getting very nervous about my job prospects. Medha's activities really helped me open up and build confidence. After the classroom training was over, Medha facilitated a two-month internship with Allen Cooper shoes. I learned essential customer service skills and the day-to-day function of a retail store. When the internship ended, Medha helped me find a full-time job at Central, part of the conglomerate Future Group.

I’ve been working at Central for a year now and I’m advancing quickly in my position as a fashion consultant. In addition to my daily work, I’m learning Microsoft Excel, customer sales development, and inventory management.

I’m extremely happy at Central and it wouldn’t have been possible without Medha’s training and placement support.

  • Reeta Gautam

    Maharaja Bijli Pasi Gov. College
    Class of 2014
Reeta holds a special place in the Medha Alumni group. She is from our very first batch at Maharaja Bijli Pasi (the first government college we worked in) and was always a hardworking, dedicated student. After graduation, Reeta joined Eureka Forbes, a leading consumer products company specializing in water purifiers, air purifiers, and vacuums.

At the time, Eureka Forbes was not a fan of hiring young women, especially for their front-line sales jobs. It took us months to convince them to take a chance on our students, and initially, we placed four young women into internships. They were so impressed by their hard work and dedication that they offered all of them full-time jobs.

Reeta has now been with Eureka Forbes for over two years. She has grown from a Customer Sales Executive to a Customer Sales Specialist, is earning twice as much as she was when she joined and is now managing a team of four people.

Medha helped me improve my confidence and I became much more comfortable sharing my ideas and speaking in public after the program.

  • Jyoti Verma

    Government ITI
    Class of 2015
I live in Lucknow with my parents and four siblings. My father is a security guard at Lucknow University and my mother is a homemaker. After completing my B.A., I joined a multimedia and web designing course at a Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Lucknow.

I was happy pursuing a course of my choice but didn’t feel confident enough to get a job and also didn’t know how to find a job or an internship. In January 2015, I joined Medha’s Career Advancement Bootcamp (CAB). Medha's sessions improved my self-confidence and in June 2015 I got an internship with Pratyaksh Web Services, a web development startup. I thoroughly enjoyed working there and by the end of my six-month internship, I secured a full-time offer as a Web Designer. I have completed almost two years at Pratyaksh and I love my work. I still have a lot to learn and would like to master ‘Bootstrap’, the web designing software that I work on.

Medha has stayed in touch with me all these years and supported me whenever I was seeking help. My work gives me the freedom to use my imagination and bring out my creativity in front of others.

  • Ummay Aiman

    Avadh Girls' Degree College
    Class of 2014
Ummay was always one of the quieter students. She joined Medha in 2013 when she was in the final year of her BCom. She was motivated to work after college but didn't know how to get started, and as importantly how to convince her parents. During her winter break, Medha connected her to Microsave, a financial inclusion consulting and research firm, for an internship. That experience fueled her desire for a job in corporate India but after graduation, she reluctantly returned home and started teaching at a local pre-school, the only option her parents' would allow.

Ummay grew frustrated and wanted to explore different career options. She contacted Medha's Alumni team in 2015 seeking advice and other opportunities. After months of negotiating with her parents, she was able to persuade them to let her start a six-month internship with Taj Vivanta, the only five-star hotel in Lucknow. Her hard work and persistence paid off, and she converted that internship into a full-time job in the HR department. Ummay is now considering a part-time MBA to further accelerate her career in hospitality!

Medha has been right by my side as I fought my way into corporate India!
